I have always believed that there is something extraordinary about a woman in a saree.
For me, sarees have never been reserved for weddings, festivals or special occasions. I have always loved dressing up in them, finding reasons to drape one, and discovering the beauty of different weaves, colours, textures and traditions.
I am Preya Deb, born in Kolkata and now living in Hyderabad. And if there is one thing you should know about me, it is that I have never needed an occasion to buy a saree. Or wear one.
When I got married, I imagined that life would bring even more occasions to dress up in sarees. But somewhere between demanding work schedules, long days and my rather unusual 2 PM to 11 PM work shifts, those occasions became fewer than I had imagined.
Sometimes, I find myself wishing I had lived in the 70s or 80s, when wearing a saree was simply a part of everyday life. Women wore them to work, to run errands, to meet friends and to celebrate little moments.
Perhaps I belong to a different generation, but I love that idea. And in my own little way, I am choosing to bring it back.
Because why should we wait for an occasion to wear something we love?
A love for six yards, in all their forms.
No matter how many sarees I own, I always find room for another. There is always another weave to discover, another colour to fall in love with, another drape that feels just right.
A soft cotton for an ordinary afternoon. A beautiful linen for a day at work. A Jamdani that tells a story of craftsmanship. A silk saree for a celebration. Every saree has its own personality, and every woman has her own way of wearing it.
That is what makes this world so beautiful. There is always something new to discover.
And that is how Deb Looms came to life.
Deb Looms was born from my love for sarees and my desire to share that love with women who feel the same way.
